Aretha Franklin – A strong, black female singing this powerful song in the 60’s. Was she looking for respect for being female? For being black? Described by Wexler as “A fantastic feminist statement,” R-E-S-P-E-C-T became one of the most empowering anthems for women across the globe.

Following in Aretha Franklin’s footsteps, we now have so many amazing female artists, so why do festivals have a serious lack of women fronting them? Last year, only 12% of festival performers in the UK were female, and 10% mixed groups.

Uncharted Unmuted CIC wants to change this! We want to bring more women into the limelight, offering you a more dynamic festival experience!
